Assisted-reproduction bill would bar singles, gays

An interim legislative committee is considering a bill that would prohibit gays, lesbians and single people in Indiana from using medical science to assist them in having a child.
Sen. Patricia Miller, R-Indianapolis, said the state does not regulate assisted reproduction but should have requirements similar to its adoption requirements.

Miller is chairwoman of the Health Finance Commission, a panel of lawmakers that will vote Oct. 20 on whether to recommend the legislation to the full General Assembly.

The ASUO Women's Center is reworking the casting process for this year's production of "The Vagina Monologues" in response to protests that last year's production underrepresented various communities of women.

Instead of holding auditions, the producers will solicit nominations from several student groups, as well as the Women's and Gender Studies Program, to assemble a potential cast. The final casting decision will be made by a volunteer selection committee.

the only thing that bothers me about this is where they say that they are going to look for people who are not so much "drama oriented" but who are active in promoting v.m. that seems to kind of defy the point. the people performing should be able to perform convincingly, don't you think?

i definitely agree that the women who are suppossed to be of color or of a larger size in the script should be played accordingly. casting a white woman as a black woman is just... well, it's stupid.

UNESCO Media and Gender Chair established at Communication University of China

The first UNESCO Chair in Media and Gender in China was recently established at the Communication University of China (CUC). The Chair, held by Liu Liqun, aims at raising awareness on gender related issues in the media environment.
“Producers of media programmes for mass audience here in China still lack gender awareness. The patterns and symbols used in representing women in mass media prove that prejudice and discrimination against women still exist, " says CUC President Liu Jinan.

The Chair is intended to empower girls and women through high quality media productions on women in China and through capacity building among media professionals, especially in disadvantaged regions.
